Summer Solstice means it’s International Day of Yoga! How beautiful to unite with yogis all over the world to celebrate... join in! You really have no excuse, it’s the longest day of the year...
Here, I’m using the chin mudra with my lifted hand, which represents uniting individual and universal consciousness (appropriate for today, no?). I love the idea that this day brings people together from all walks of life, all ages, all interests, all over the world, to celebrate something good. Remember, asana (the physical poses) are just a tiny part of yoga. You can celebrate this day on a mat (perhaps with some SUN Salutations), or by simply doing something nice for someone.
Here’s a quote straight from India’s Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) that I read to my classes yesterday:
“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.”
It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.
Beautiful. It's not
about exercise. It's about becoming your best self and shining love and light into the world. So join in... by practicing yoga or just being a light for someone.
Love & Light.
